Main differences between the Napoleon smoke box and the smoke tube
A smoke box and a smoke tube are both accessories that can be used to add smoke flavour to food on a gas barbecue, but they differ in shape, capacity and use.
Smoke box
- Shape: low and wide box, often with lid
- Location on the grill: usually placed above the burners, in place of the sear plate.
- Capacity: holds more smoke or pellets
- Suitable for prolonged smoking – for example for larger cuts of meat.
- Advantage: lasts longer and produces more smoke at a time
Smoke pipe
- Shape: narrow and cylindrical
- Position on the grill: placed on a sear plate.
- Capacity: smaller than a smoke box
- Suitable for shorter smoking – for example for fish or smaller cuts of meat.
- Advantage: easy to use, no need to modify the grill
